Dr. Sherwin has spent his career exploring the legacies of nuclear weapons, having written A World Destroyed: Hiroshima and Its Legaciesas well as American Promethus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer, his Pulitzer Prize-winning biography of the man who led the effort to build the atomic bomb and later found himself confronting the moral consequences of scientific progress. In this interview, Dr. Sherwin explores the implications of the use of nuclear weapons on Hiroshima and Nagasaki on the Cold War, deterrence, and current efforts to reduce and eliminate nuclear weapons.
