Global Perspectives | UK-Russia Relations
Overview
Relations between the United Kingdom and Russia have remained at a freezing point following Russia’s annexation of Crimea and intervention in eastern Ukraine, the Skripal poisoning, and subsequent western sanctions, among a host of other issues. In the UK’s Integrated Review released in March 2021 Russia is bluntly referred to as “the most acute threat” to the UK’s security. However, both the UK and Russia have mutual interests in a variety of issues including climate change, arms control and nonproliferation, strategic stability, and public health. Are tense relations between the UK and Russia here to stay? Might there still be room for bilateral or multilateral dialogue? On October 15, join us for a conversation with Andrew Monaghan on the state of UK-Russia relations and what the future might hold.

Our initiatives include “Ukraine in Europe” – an examination of what it will take to make Ukraine’s European future a reality. But we also examine the role of NATO, the European Union and the OSCE, Europe’s energy security, transatlantic trade disputes, and challenges to democracy. The Global Europe Program’s staff, scholars-in-residence, and Global Fellows participate in seminars, policy study groups, and international conferences to provide analytical recommendations to policy makers and the media.
